Health accord signed by Qld and Berlin

A partnership has been formed between Queensland and Berlin, with the signing of a new health accord.

The partnership is designed to advance the fields of health and medical science.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk signed a joint declaration of intent with the President of the German Bundesrat and the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael M眉ller, in Brisbane.

The agreement will lead to the exchange of expertise, information and experience, and will ensure Berlin and Queensland are at the forefront of healthcare innovation and the biomedical industries into the future.

A group of Queensland and Berlin experts in science, higher education, research, industry and health care will develop a process to inform the future of health care, medical science and innovation, and medical education and training.

鈥淕ermany and Queensland enjoy a valuable and productive relationship in many fields, especially in advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and medicine, so I鈥檓 delighted we are extending and strengthening our common bonds to advance the fields of health and medical science,鈥 said Palaszczuk.

鈥淭his accord will encourage and strengthen the spirit of cooperation between our healthcare systems, research teams, institutions, foundations and organisations.

鈥淲e鈥檙e already pushing the boundaries in medical research, life sciences, health care and innovation which are at the heart of my government鈥檚 $650 million suite of programs.

鈥淭his agreement with Berlin will build on this and by boosting health research and sharing our healthcare experience, this partnership will contribute to better health outcomes.鈥

The Premier said Queensland has some of the world鈥檚 best-known research institutions such as QIMR Berghofer, Queensland University of Technology, The University of Queensland, Griffith University and James Cook University.

鈥淥耻谤 system is also home to a wealth of healthcare expertise and innovation and, by boosting health research and sharing our healthcare experience, this partnership will contribute to better health outcomes for Queenslanders,鈥 she said.

鈥淕erman investment is playing a crucial role in both traditional and new industries in Queensland.

鈥淭ogether, we鈥檙e preparing Queensland to become the knowledge-based economy of tomorrow, and we鈥檙e proud we can do so alongside Berlin.鈥

The agreement between Queensland and Berlin takes effect immediately.
