PSA launches updated Professional Practice Standards
Monday, 07 August, 2023
The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) has released revised Professional Practice Standards (PPS) for practising pharmacists.
Under the new standards, clinical activities undertaken by pharmacists in differing specialty areas will fall into one or more of 17 standards that are built off the medicine management cycle.
National President Dr Fei Sim launched the standards during the organisation鈥檚 national PSA23 conference.
鈥淭he PPS are designed to define and articulate the minimum expected standards of professional behaviour in all aspects of pharmacy practice,鈥 Sim said.
Applying the PPS to practice will require pharmacists to look at the clinical activities they undertake and the minimum practice standards that apply to those activities.
鈥淎s we work towards enabling pharmacists to practice to full scope, we must be mindful that the practice of pharmacists must be underpinned by a robust set of standards, to ensure the quality of the work that we do,鈥 Sim said.
The Chair of the Project Advisory Group, Deanna Mill, considers the PPS to provide 鈥渃larity and usability for pharmacists across different roles, practice settings and career stages鈥, suggesting they utilise the Standards in daily practice to 鈥済uide their quality professional practice鈥.
