For the 20^th consecutive year, Nurses have been voted Australia鈥檚 most ethical and trusted professionals, with pharmacists and doctors ranked second and third respectively.
The Roy Morgan Image of Professions Survey 2014 found that 91 per cent of Australians aged 14 and over, placed nurses at Number 1 in terms of ethics and honesty.听This was a 1% increase on the previous year.
According to the national survey of 30 professions, nurses are still 鈥渓eading the way as Australia鈥檚 most respected profession for very high or high ethics and honesty.鈥�
鈥淥n behalf of our members, the ANMF happily welcomes the findings of the Roy Morgan survey,鈥� ANMF Federal Secretary, Lee Thomas, said today.听鈥淚t鈥檚 a great achievement that nurses have again been rated Australia鈥檚 leading professionals in terms of ethics and honesty for the 20^th consecutive year.
鈥淣urses represent the largest proportion of Australia鈥檚 health workforce and continue to deliver quality patient care to people of all ages, working in hospital emergency departments, maternity, mental health and aged care facilities.
鈥淎ustralia needs to urgently develop and implement viable solutions to ensure there is a future nursing and midwifery workforce to replace current the nursing staff who are set to retire over the next 15 to 20 years.
鈥淭he Abbott Government must work with the States and Territories and with key stakeholders like the ANMF to fund strategies to create decent jobs for Australia鈥檚 highly-educated nursing and midwifery graduates who still cannot find employment.鈥�
