SurfaceWise2, a hospital-grade disinfectant that makes surfaces hostile to germs for up to three months, has been launched in Australia by . The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)-listed product was developed to provide always-on antimicrobial protection against 99.9% of germs, bacteria and COVID-19.

Every year, up to 180,000 Australians suffer healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), which result in prolonged hospital stays and occupation of two million hospital beds. It is estimated that up to 70% of HAIs are preventable.

SurfaceWise2 has been scientifically proven to protect surfaces in a real-world environment against 99.99% of germs (including coronavirus) for up to three months, with independently verified results published in . Internationally recognised microbiologist and Professor of Environmental Microbiology Dr Charles Gerba said, 鈥淪urfaceWise2 is the next generation of infection control. Our generation spends more time indoors. We have larger schools, bigger buildings, we travel further and push more buttons than any other generation in history. According to research undertaken by Dr Gerba, germ hotspots include:

• Office phones followed by desktops, laptops or tablets.
• Countertops in shared break rooms where food is prepared.
• The ground floor lift button.

Bathrooms are not as bad as we think, as most people only use the bathroom a few times per day and they wash their hands. Our hands are the greatest spreader of germs as we sneeze and then touch surfaces and our face. Adults touch their face 16鈥�24 times per hour. Young children touch their faces as often as 40鈥�50 times per hour.

Traditional cleaning products such as disinfectants are momentary solutions 鈥� surfaces become immediately recontaminated as soon as someone touches, coughs or sneezes on that surface. SurfaceWise2 is a non-toxic coating that can be sprayed onto a variety of surfaces to provide always-on protection. The technology is highly residual after a single coating.

The Australian operations of Allied BioServices is being spearheaded by CEO Tim Smith and Chief Executive, Channels, Dan Ode.

SurfaceWise2 has already been piloted with Anytime Fitness, resulting in a 90%+ reduction in germs over a three-month period compared with pre-application testing.
