Monday, 10 November, 2014
New facilities including an emergency department, expanded children's inpatient unit and rehabilitation unit have been opened at Logan 黑料吃瓜群网 in Queensland.
The new聽$145.24 million building聽was officially opened 聽by Health Minister Lawrence Springborg, Metro South Health Board Chair, Terry White AO, and Federal Member for Forde, Bert Van Manen,
Minister Springborg said the new, collocated adult and children鈥檚 emergency departments were three times the size of the previous department, future-proofing what was already one of the State鈥檚 busiest emergency departments.
鈥淣early 75,000 patients walk through the doors of Logan hospital鈥檚 emergency department each year and one quarter of those presentations are children,鈥 the Minister said.聽鈥淭his new facility means more patients will be treated closer to home, receive even better care and ideally, recover quicker.聽鈥淭he building will revitalise frontline services and boost the hospital鈥檚 capability to treat more patients at a time when the local population is facing unprecedented growth.
鈥淣ew housing developments throughout Logan City and beyond are predicted to see the City鈥檚 population grow by 2.5 percent each year between now and 2031*, so this facility is very timely.鈥
Minister Springborg said the State Government had committed funding for an additional 200 medical, nursing, allied health and support staff.
鈥淭he new building provides a floor space of 10,000m2 鈥 equal in size to eight Olympic-sized swimming pools,鈥 he said. 聽鈥淚t also features a host of state-of-the-art technology and best practice approaches to treatment. The expanded workforce will also ensure Logan 黑料吃瓜群网 is properly resourced to meet the future demand for the region.鈥
Metro South Board Chair, Terry White AO said the opening of the new building was a very significant moment in Logan 黑料吃瓜群网鈥檚 history.
鈥淭his new building and the services it will provide to the local community represent a major expansion to the services provided by Metro South Health,鈥 Mr White said.聽鈥淟ocal parents can now bring their children to a dedicated children鈥檚 emergency department much closer to home and rehabilitation patients can receive the care they need without the need to drive significant distances and transfer to other facilities.鈥
