New online dementia guide provides practical information

A new, plain English guide to dementia is now available online.
Designed for people caring for聽or living with dementia, includes information on types of dementia and their causes,聽risk factors including genetics and lifestyle choices,聽and diagnosing and living with dementia.
Dementia is Australia鈥檚 second largest killer; more than 400,000 Australians live with dementia and that number is expected to climb to 1.1 million by 2056.
Published by the in partnership with Alzheimer鈥檚 Australia, the 24-page guide is a practical resource for聽those impacted by dementia.
鈥淭he publication is an essential resource for anyone living with or affected by dementia, one of society鈥檚 most pressing health problems,鈥 Queensland Brain Institute Director聽Professor Pankaj Sah said.
鈥淲e explain the science behind dementia 鈥 its causes and risk factors 鈥 in an accessible and informative way.
鈥淭he publication includes profiles of prominent Australians including media legend Ita Buttrose, who shares her experience of caring for her father while he had vascular dementia.鈥
Television and radio presenter Rachel Corbett also opens up about her harrowing personal experience of her mother鈥檚 younger-onset dementia and Alzheimer鈥檚 Australia CEO Maree McCabe discusses the national support services that the organisation provides, Professor Sah said.
The publication is the third issue in a series. The second issue, on聽, was published earlier this year.
