The $31.3 million redevelopment of the Esperance Health Campus has reached a major milestone with builders being invited to tender for the project.

聽The tender follows an Expression of Interest process in February which was used to create a shortlist of builders.聽Health Minister Kim Hames said early construction works were expected to start mid-year and would involve extensive site works and upgrades to the access roads as well as to essential services.
鈥淥nce the preliminary works are completed, the major construction can get under way, beginning with the new front entrance and Emergency Department (ED),鈥� Dr Hames said.聽鈥淲hen completed, the ED will have about three times the capacity of the existing department, with two state-of-the-art resuscitation bays, a procedure room, as well as private consulting rooms and acute treatment bays.
鈥淭he redevelopment will include a new operating theatre, an upgrade of the existing theatre to provide a minor procedure theatre, an eight-bed day surgery unit, two modern birthing suites and four single rooms including private ensuites for maternity patients.鈥�
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said funding for the project included $18.8 million from the Royalties for Regions program, and was part of the State Government鈥檚 record investment in health infrastructure across Western Australia.聽聽聽WA Country Health Service will contribute $12.5 million.
Tenders will close on May 13 and site works will start in July.聽聽Patients undergoing day procedures will be able to enter the building from a near-by set down and parking area.
Construction of the ED is due to start before the end of the year, with completion expected in 2016.
