Roxon Wins Public Health Award

Former federal health and ageing minister Nicola Roxon has been announced as the Sidney Sax Medallist for 2012 for her outstanding contribution to public health.


Now Attorney-General, Ms Roxon鈥檚 award is the highest award given annually by the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA).


PHAA鈥檚 immediate past president, Professor Helen Keleher, said the award acknowledged Ms Roxon understood the role of social determinants and recognised the importance of prevention.


鈥淎s health minister from December 2007 through to December 2011 and then as attorney-general she has pursued public health issues with vigour and with considerable success,鈥 Prof Keleher said in a statement on Monday.
