Queensland Health nurse Helen Murray has combined her patient care skills with the world of e-Health听and been honoured with a top ICT award.
Helen, a听Project Director and Registered Nurse,听was chosen as the winner of the ICT听Outstanding Achievement Award by respected industry association, Women in Technology.
The award recognises Helen for improving the delivery of health services across听Queensland through the innovative use of information technology.
At the Health Services Information Agency of Queensland Health, Helen is responsible听for The Viewer, a highly respected state-wide web-based view of patient information from听specialty and clinical systems across Queensland Health.
鈥淭he Viewer has enabled a more comprehensive picture of a patient鈥檚 clinical history,鈥澨鼿elen said.听鈥淭his ultimately provides clinicians with more information essential to clinical decisions they听make about the care of their patients.
鈥淏ringing all this information into one place saves clinicians valuable time and gives them听more direct patient contact.
鈥淚t is the only system in a state health department that provides a comprehensive statewide听view of a patient鈥檚 admissions, emergency presentations, pathology, radiology reports,听medications, alerts and adverse reactions and procedure reports.
鈥淭oday, The Viewer has over 26,000 users and more than 1,000,000 views.鈥�
Helen is now working on the design for a mobile version of The Viewer to ensure clinicians听can access clinical information on the run.
鈥淣ursing and ICT is a unique combination, so I made sure I kept up my nursing听accreditation while undertaking a Graduate Certificate in ICT at Griffith University.
Helen remains passionate about clinical redesign to improve care delivery and the role e-Health has in more efficient and comprehensive care.
鈥渆-Health is now a reality for Queenslanders and for anyone cared for by Queensland听Health,鈥� she said.
