The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care in collaboration with the Health Quality & Safety Commission New Zealand has released the Hip Fracture Care Clinical Care Standard and accompanying resources. The resources provide guidance to consumers, clinicians and health services on delivering appropriate care to people with a hip fracture.
In Australia, an estimated 19 000 people over the age of 50聽are hospitalised with a hip fracture each year, often after falls. As the population continues to age, the number, and associated burden of people admitted to hospital with a hip fracture, is expected to increase.
The Hip Fracture Care Clinical Care Standard aims聽to ensure that a patient with a hip fracture receives聽optimal treatment from presentation to hospital聽through to the completion of treatment in hospital.

A range of resources are available from the Commission's to assist Clinicians and health services with the implementation of the new standard including indicators to monitor implementation of the quality statements, and support improvements as needed.
