A mental health nurse, a graduate nurse assisting the elderly to live in their homes and an innovative
Cape York-based infant safe sleeping program received the highest honours at the 2014 HESTA
Australian Nursing Awards this year.
HESTA Chair, Angela Emslie, said the awards were a chance to recognise the work of Australian nurses听and learn about some of the successes and innovations emerging from the nursing profession.
鈥淥ur award recipients have not only demonstrated extraordinary care and compassion in the course of
their work; they have gone above and beyond what is expected of them. HESTA is proud to honour the
work of these outstanding individuals and nursing teams.鈥�
The 2014 recipients are:
Nurse of the Year: Steve Brown 鈥� of NorthWestern Mental Health, Victoria (the mental health arm of
Melbourne Health) 鈥� for his role in implementing the Police Ambulance Clinician Emergency Response
(PACER) system, to improve the crisis management of people living with mental health.
Outstanding Graduate: Zoe Sabri 鈥� of the Royal District Nursing Service in Springvale, Melbourne 鈥�
for her work assisting elderly clients to continue to live safely in their own homes.
Team Innovation: The Apunipima P?pi-pod庐 Program 鈥� based at Cape York Health Council 鈥� for their
work with Indigenous Australians in helping reduce the rates of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy
(SUDI) among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
