While a number of high profile Australians are getting behind World Mental Health Day today, there is no reason everyone can't join in.
Celebrities including Shane Jacobson, Andrew O鈥橩eefe, John Waters, Peter Overton, Jessica Rowe, Harry O鈥橞rien, Joe Roff and Jonathan Welch and more than 1000 people from Australia and internationally are taking part in the Mental Health Council of Australia鈥檚 (MCHA) pledge to make a promise.
鈥淭his year we are looking to achieve three things with our World Mental Health Day campaign,鈥 MHCA CEO Frank Quinlan said.
鈥淔irst, we want to break down stigma, an issue that drives right to the heart of maintaining positive mental wellbeing. Secondly, we want to bring communities together and get them talking about mental health and sharing their experiences. Finally, we want to encourage people to seek help when they need it.
鈥淭o achieve these goals, we are asking people to take a personal step towards good mental health. We are asking people to make a personal mental health promise. 鈥淲ith small individual steps, we can make a big difference.鈥
The MHCA is calling on people to share their promise and is encouraging people to open up about mental illness. Anyone can make a promise at
鈥淏ut of course,鈥 Mr Quinlan added 鈥渋f you make a promise, you have to try really hard to keep it!鈥
